FAQ About Reiki
Is Reiki like massage?

No. Reiki and massage are two different things. Massage is when the client's body/muscles are deeply stroked and manipulated by the massage therapist. Although Reiki practitioners use some level of touch, is very light and sometimes there is no touch used at all. The practitioner's hands are kept quiet and still, to better sense the movement of energy. Plus, the client is clothed during a Reiki session, with the exception of their shoes. In massage, the client is undressed.

Can Reiki take the place of conventional medicine?

No! Reiki is to be used as a complementary therapy, in conjunction with prescribed medicines and/or treatments from your doctor or veterinarian. It enhances the effects of medications, lowers anxiety and stress, and supports the immune system of the body to help the body to heal itself, but it is not to replace your own doctor's supervision and care. Reiki practitioners do not diagnose, prescribe or treat animals or people with medication.

Can Reiki "cure" me?

This is not for any practitioner to promise, ever. Reiki supports the body's own ability to heal, but only Divine Source can ever create a cure. There can be many causes for an individual's physical, mental or emotional state. These causes or reasons may not be something that Divine Source sees fit to enlighten us to, for our best learning and development in this life. Practitioner and client can only ask for an outcome that is in the, "highest and best good" of the individual being treated, that's all. Higher Wisdom will do the rest, and our part is to trust.

Why do you call the one channeling Reiki the "Practitioner" and not the "healer".

Reiki Practitioners are not healers, and I would studiously avoid those who refer themselves as such. Reiki Practitioners are simply empty vessels, channels, conduits for Divine Source to use, sort of like a proxy. All we do is to use our bodies to focus the energies to where they are needed. The rest is done by Reiki.

What do I "do" during a session?

I like to tell people that their role is simply to be open, be accepting of wonderful, loving energy. My request to my clients is to go to the happiest place they've ever been, or ever wanted to be, and Reiki will do the rest. If preferred, they can meditate during the session, or just maintain a relaxed, but watchful state, feeling the energy move through their bodies and noting any changes in feeling or temperature where the Practitioner's hands are. Most of all, the client needs to allow themselves to relax and enjoy... that's it!

What can I expect after a session is over?

After a Reiki session, it's important to take in water to rehydrate yourself. When one is treated with Reiki, the vibrational level of an individual is raised somewhat to match the vibration of the Practitioner or the energy that is being passed along. This is part of the re-balancing aspect of Reiki, and like massage, toxins can be released from the system and need to be flushed from the body. Other than taking in a good amount of water, it would ideal if the client had some time to relax and take the rest of the day slowly, perhaps even having a nap if possible. This allows the energies to "settle" a bit, and resting is very, very healing in and of itself, which supporte the work that Reiki has started.

Is Reiki a religion?

No. Reiki has no dogma, and one does not have to believe anything in order to use Reiki. Reiki teachings are about inclusion, not denying blessings to those who are not following the teachings. The teachings are universal in its approach; it is taught that Reiki is for all, not the chosen few.

Is Reiki a cult?

No. We do not worship a leader, nor is there any sacrifice of material goods or way of life in order to learn and use Reiki. Again, the teachings are all-inclusive; no one has to be "converted" in order to study and apply Reiki.

Is Reiki harmful?

No. Reiki can never do harm, in any situation. Reiki is spiritual energy from the highest source, with infinite wisdom. It works in concert with a person's own highest self to bring the best to any situation.
